Kindergarten

Mixed Age Group: Children in Kindergarten are segregated in mixed age groups, ranging from 2 years – 4 years (Nursery) and 4 years – 6 years (Kindergarten). This helps younger children learn faster through imitation and older children to be worthy of imitation. Between 0-7 years, the physical organs of children have their completion through the formative forces. The objective is hence to give nourishment to the complete being through the nourishment of the senses by focusing on play and other doing activities. The teacher works as the centre in the Kindergarten and the ‘being’ of the teacher shall be worthy of imitation by the child. Children engage in the following routine that helps them in the development of their senses.

Play

“Play is the highest form of research.”- Albert Einstein

Story Time

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairytales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairytales.” – Albert Einstein.
Einstein says, “When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.”
Fairytales are the appropriate stories for Kindergarten, for children take fairy tales as nourishment to their souls. Through the richness of fairytales, they also build their vocabularies. In the later grade years too, Mathematics, History, Science, and other subjects are introduced through relevant stories.

Circle Time

In Kindergarten, circle time is considered a time of joy and serenity – serenity in the underlying peace and security. This includes gestures, finger play, music, verses based on the seasons and festivals of the year, and more. Circle time brings within children discipline and belonging to the world, without any insistence by adults. They also start building their vocabulary.

Art

In working with young children, it is necessary to create an environment which nourishes the child’s sensitivity towards good artistic quality from the beginning. This is consciously implemented through modeling with bees wax or clay, painting, and music.

Activity

Age appropriate activities that are part of the daily routine help children work on their physical and emotional self.

These include wet-on-wet painting, drawing with crayons, cooking, cleaning, nature walk, playing with dough, and knitting.

Movements

Observing children gives us great insight on how to work with them, and movement is a beautiful way to do so. Movements aid in their physical development which in turn impacts their emotional stability.
Older children need more of these movements as they aid their learning capability in Grade 1.

Class Play / Drama

This forms an essential element in building their confidence, cooperative skills, team skills, language development and delivery.

Day out

They shall be taken out once in a term to make learning possible by visiting places appropriate for their age
